Mrs Joan Fairweather’s daughter first contacted Cotswold Heating Solutions on her mother’s behalf, worried that Mrs Fairweather (who lives alone in a 1970s semi in Wolverhampton) had been avoiding using the “boost” button on her night storage heaters to keep her electricity costs down, even on genuinely cold days. One heater in the back bedroom had stopped working two winters earlier and had simply never been dealt with, leaving that room unheated ever since.
We carried out a free survey of the property, checking the general insulation (in reasonably good order) and the loft insulation (worth topping up, we suggested, alongside the heating work), and measured each room for the right radTherm® radiators. Mrs Fairweather and her daughter were both involved in the decision and her daughter, who doesn’t live locally, was particularly interested in the RadTherm® App, which would let her check in on the heating remotely if needed. Mrs Fairweather chose a simple white finish for every room, and we talked through the 30-year manufacturer’s warranty, which mattered to her as a system she wanted to only have to think about once.
On installation day, we removed all of the old storage heaters, including the broken one that had sat cold for two winters, and took the old brick cores away for recycling. RadTherm® radiators were fitted throughout and wired directly into the existing fused spurs left over from the old storage heaters. Mrs Fairweather likes her home a little warmer than most, so we balanced the system accordingly: 22°C in the lounge, 20°C in the kitchen, and 18°C in her bedroom, with the once-cold back bedroom now heating properly for the first time in years.
Her daughter got in touch after the first few weeks to say how much of a relief it was that her mother no longer had to think about the boost button at all and the house simply stays at a comfortable, even temperature, and the bills have become far easier to predict than the old up-and-down storage heater charges ever were.
