Mrs Eleanor Whitcombe got in touch with Cotswold Heating Solutions shortly after moving into a Cotswold stone cottage on the edge of Cirencester, Gloucestershire. The property came with a set of night storage heaters, some clearly original to a 1980s refurbishment, and Mrs Whitcombe quickly found herself at the mercy of the Economy 7 tariff that came with them, paying to charge the heaters overnight whether she needed the warmth or not, then finding the house cooling off again by mid-afternoon (a common complaint!). Two of the heaters in the spare bedrooms barely put out any heat at all, and the one in the sitting room kindly rattled every time it kicked in.
Like many owners of older Cotswold properties, Mrs Whitcombe was also conscious of the character of her home. She didn’t want anything bulky or intrusive, and was very keen to find a new heating system that let her heat the rooms she actually used without paying to keep empty rooms warm around the clock.
We carried out a free home survey, assessing the windows (a mix of secondary glazing downstairs and older single-pane windows in the two attic bedrooms) and the loft insulation, before taking measurements and calculating sizes and outputs required for each room. Mrs Whitcombe was shown the full range of finishes and chose RAL9003 white, to sit comfortably against her existing decor. By the end of the day, every room in the cottage had its own working, individually controllable radiator, balanced to Mrs Whitcombe’s preferences: a cosy 21°C in the sitting room, 16°C in the two spare bedrooms she rarely uses, and a warmer 18°C in her own bedroom.
